The pharmaceutical industry is a sector of great national and international relevance for the research and development of drugs classified into different categories according to their effects and properties, such as: reference, generic, similar, OTC, prescription, controlled, and biological.

In Brazil, there are more than 200 companies authorized by ANVISA to manufacture these drugs, concentrated especially in the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, places where important corporations, research institutes, and renowned universities are headquartered, and according to the Pharmaceutical Research Industry Association, this sector generates around 118 thousand direct jobs and more than 600 thousand indirect jobs, moving annually 72 billion reais, while globally it offers 4.7 million jobs, billing more than 200 billion dollars a year.
