The chemical industry is a very important sector for the entire business chain, as it is responsible for the production of a huge variety of products categorized into 3 major groups, being: the basic, with the supply of raw materials for other industries, such as ethylene, propylene, ammonia, chlorine and sulfuric acid; the specialized, with the supply of high value-added chemicals used in applications such as water treatment, food preservation, plastic processing, fertilizers for agriculture, pharmaceuticals for medicines; and the final, with the supply of finished products used by consumers, such as cleaning and personal hygiene materials, perfumery and beauty, paints and coatings.

According to ABIQUIM, the Brazilian chemical industry is composed of more than 2,700 companies, employing 480 thousand people, and moving about 550 billion reais per year.
